Kids love rocks! Beginning with their first experiences
outside, children are drawn to rocks; examining them, throwing them,
skipping them across water, etc. What is the fascination?
What is the attraction? Perhaps there is an
unspoken connection between children and the earth. This
earth made of rocks: simple, yet complex; common, yet unique.
Kids love to play with rocks (and sticks) among the grass and
trees and sunshine. They are comfortable in nature.
As we spend countless dollars on more
intricate electronic devices, our children yearn for time with nature.
Experiences with nature are crucial to the development of a
healthy child. Geology is much more than rocks; it is the
study
of the Earth. Among many other educational advantages
experienced in nature, geology offers practical knowledge about the
world, it's formation and natural processes.
