Crowder State Park offers
plenty of hiking trails through the woods, crossing over creek beds and
listening to wildlife. At the time we went (early July) the
creeks and streams were practically dry, so the kids really enjoyed
playing in the rocks and finding frogs.
The terrain was a bit strenuous for a two-year-old in a few spots, but
wasn't really a problem.
Fishing in the 20-acre Crowder Lake was a highlight of the trip.
The lake is full of channel catfish,
largemouth bass, crappie and blue gill. Several picnic areas, a
shelter, playground, and a tennis court are located around Crowder Lake.
Our youngest had fun trying to catch bullfrogs in the reeds
and muck at the shore.
Oue campsite was good sized and level and featured a trail right
behind it leading through the woods. The kids found some berries
back in the woods (we made sure they were safe to eat). They were
able to play at a small playground which was only a couple hundred
feet away, giving us some time to relax as well.
